Jon Burge False Confessions

Using tactics he’d learned as a military investigator in Vietnam, in 1973 Chicago Police Commander Jon Burge coerced false confessions from the first of nearly 120 Black men over two decades. Victims would later testify that Burge had electrocuted them with battery cables attached to their testicles, and shotguns shoved in their mouths, among other things.
